We held our AGM on Saturday, 16 May, and it was great to meet and hear from local residents. Our local police officers introduced themselves, and talked about Met Engage, the new website where residents can sign up to connect with our local police and get updates about policing activities in the area. Find out more here.
We also heard from our local councillor Leila Ben-Hassel, who talked about her work with the council to improve our community.
NVGRA's Chair Deborah Bestwick also presented our petition for a new crossing on Stanford Road. Residents have long raised concerns with the council, police and TfL about speeding on that road. Our Safer Neighbourhood Team has recorded cars travelling up to 50mph, and many of us have taken part in community speed watch sessions and written letters calling for action. We are calling for a properly controlled crossing, such as a zebra or pelican crossing, to improve safety for all.
We have started a petition to press for action. Please sign it here.
Merkur slots submitted an application to turn the former Natwest bank on the high street into an adult gaming centre. NVGRA objected to the application, and the application will now be heard by the Council’s licensing sub-committee at their meeting on Thursday 2 July 2026. Members of NVGRA will attend. We will update residents on the outcome of the hearing when we know it.
Following a public webinar on 19th November 2024 the owners of the site provided an update on the revised vision for the former Natwest sports ground, highlighting changes made over the last 18 months.
Overall feedback was that the revised designs were an improvement, but significant concerns remain, mainly around parking, traffic, and extra demands on the local area.
For those who could not attend, the webinar recording and presentation document are available to view here.
NVGRA will be listening out for the next steps and updating residents on how to submit their views as the process develops.
